Fikelela Childrens Centre

The children at Fikelela Children’s Centre have been enjoying the benefits of fresh Harvest of Hope vegetables in their soups and stews. Fikelela in Khayelitsha was set up to care for abandoned and orphaned children between the ages of 0 – 8yrs in the surrounding area.

‘We do not believe that children should be institutionalized on the long term basis. Each child needs a mother and to know that they belong to a particular family. The Fikelela Children’s Centre offers short term emergency foster care. Children come to us from social workers, the social worker will first of all have ascertained that there is no extended family member willing and able to take in the child. Our role is then to provide emergency foster care for the children, until they are nursed back to health and suitable long term foster parents are identified in the community.’

Our motto is: ‘Every child is my child’
